Successful Second QDMK: Quest Software and ora2know Joint Event on Performance Optimization
In my keynote “Why is the Database So Slow?“, I highlighted the central themes of the day. The talk covered the subjective and objective perceptions of performance and introduced ora2know. This was followed by exciting presentations and live demonstrations by Quest Software.
However, the true diversity was brought by the ora2know delegation, which presented a wide range of talks on performance optimization:
- Klaus Reimer (Ordix) explained the intricacies of statistics and what to watch out for.
- Christian Pfundtner (DBMasters) traveled all the way from Vienna and captivated the audience with insights into the hardware requirements for optimal performance.
- Bruno Cirone (BC Consulting) shared his over 30 years of experience and demonstrated how applications can still be optimized even without direct access to the software. During this talk, many Oracle specialists seemed to have a lightbulb moment – myself included.

In between, I had the opportunity to share my experiences with SharePlex for Oracle – a topic I always convey with enthusiasm. My talk “The DBA Can Sleep Peacefully” prompted reflection and offered valuable insights into projects where major downtimes must be avoided at all costs.
The conference was a complete success, characterized by practical presentations and in-depth expertise – an indispensable event for anyone involved in database performance.
