Successful second QDMK: Quest Software and ora2know joint event on the topic of performance optimization.
For the second time, Quest Software hosted the Quest Data Management Conference (QDMK) — and ora2know played a decisive role in the event’s success.
Already in my keynote “Why Is the Database So Slow?“, the key themes of the day were addressed. These included the subjective and objective perception of performance, as well as an introduction to ora2know. This was followed by compelling presentations and live demonstrations by Quest Software.
The true diversity of the day, however, was brought by the ora2know delegation, which presented a broad spectrum of talks on performance optimization:
- Klaus Reimer (Ordix) explained the nuances of statistics and what to watch out for.
- Christian Pfundtner (DBMasters) travelled specially from Vienna and captivated the audience with insights into the hardware requirements for optimal performance.
- Bruno Cirone (BC Consulting) drew on more than 30 years of experience to show how applications can still be optimized even when direct access to the software is not possible. This presentation in particular seemed to give more than one Oracle specialist pause for thought — myself included.
In between, I had the opportunity to share my experience with SharePlex for Oracle — a topic I always present with great enthusiasm. My talk “The DBA Can Sleep Easy” gave the audience food for thought and offered valuable insights into projects where extended downtime must be avoided at all costs.
The conference was a complete success, characterized by practice-oriented presentations and in-depth expertise — an indispensable event for anyone working with database performance.
