ora2know is an independent community for Oracle Database administrators and developers in the German-speaking region. Our goal is the practical exchange of knowledge and experience around Oracle Database, Oracle APEX, and Oracle AI—without commercial interests, driven by enthusiasm and mutual support.
Whether DBA, developer, or architect: ora2know connects Oracle professionals in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. At our events, in the podcast, and in the newsletter, a vibrant community emerges that learns from one another.
History
Summer 2024 — The idea is born during a weekend in Bad Nauheim. Six Oracle experts forge plans for a new, independent community.
November 2024 — Founding of the MajorM Foundation in Giebelstadt as the organizational home of the community.
2025/2026 — First meetups, podcast launch, newsletter, growing community.

We propose the creation of the following clusters and invite interested and motivated participants to join and contribute (or suggest additional topics):
DATABASE
The core and flagship of Oracle technology. This cluster will cover administration, backup/recovery, licensing, high-availability technologies like RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, performance analysis, tuning, and much more. Databases here are not “old-fashioned” but the backbone of many innovations and a driver of IT evolution.
DEVELOPMENT
APEX, Oracle’s low-code and rapid development environment, has gained popularity as a platform for developing everything from simple DBA tools to complex enterprise software. Let’s exchange ideas and knowledge to make development even more enjoyable!
INFRASTRUCTURE
Born in the 1990s as a free implementation of Unix concepts, Linux has become the standard foundation for everything Oracle-related. Community members have always shared knowledge about this operating system. If you run Oracle products on Linux, this is your cluster. As they say:

The founding members of the MajorM Foundation also form its board:
- Martin Klier: A widely travelled Oracle database expert with extensive knowledge in performance optimization and high availability. He is Managing Director of Performing Databases GmbH, based in Mitterteich. He finds his balance in building model railways in H0 scale and visiting various railway lines with their corresponding 1:1 prototypes. Martin was appointed Deputy Managing Chairman at the founding assembly. Oracle ACE Director.
- Axel vom Stein: As Head of Data Technology at BSS Bohnenberg in Solingen, he represents Oracle database users. He enjoys travelling to conferences to share his experience, particularly in the logistics sector. Oracle ACE Pro.
- Johannes Ahrends: SHis speciality is the topic of high availability and the often underestimated Oracle Standard Edition. He is Managing Director of CarajanDB GmbH, based in Erftstadt on the edge of the Eifel region. As a passionate singer, he finds his balance as a bass in the VocalO choir. Johannes was appointed Managing Chairman at the founding assembly. Oracle ACE Pro.
- Oliver Pyka: As a freelancer for Oracle databases and a long-standing active member of the Oracle community, he sees his strengths behind the scenes. It comes as no surprise that the founding of a foundation draws on his expertise. Oracle ACE Pro.
- Robert Marz: Known as Databee (Databee), he is a Senior Technical Architect with a database-centric worldview. The independent consultant has a passion for the frontend and represents application developers of Oracle applications in this group. Oracle ACE Pro.
- Markus Flechtner: He enjoys passing on his many years of database experience through training courses and blog posts on the topic of Oracle databases. He is Principal Consultant and Head of Department at ORDIX AG in Cologne. To escape the reality of databases, he likes to retreat to his bicycle or his whitewater slalom kayak. Oracle ACE Pro.
